The path was hand-prepared, the rocks imported to line the stairway and prevent erosion and a good tampable soil/sand mixture brought in by hand, wheel-barrow by wheel-barrow.

The rocks are placed and set so they appear as natural as possible, yet do their job, preventing the path from eroding when the Spring and Fall rains come.

Here the ground has been filled and smoothed in preparation for cutting the stairs.

Finalizing the grade and repeated tamping of the soil, as well as pulling it up and around the rocks so they become part of the landscape, not stuck on top as if dropped there by human hand.

And, now it's ready for the log treads/risers that will make the stairway itself.
